As they disappear (i.e. working models become more rare) is valid, I think. And as the population grows, making them more rare even as their numbers stay relatively stable, is a fair statement too.
I have no doubt they are
far
more rare, except maybe in a place like Brazil. My high school parking lot c. 1980s: crawling with them. Now? You'd be lucky to spot an original.
